Amazon.com George Clooney is one, Brad Pitt is two, Matt Damon three... well, let's just assume there are 13 collaborators in this installment of Steven Soderbergh's profitable caper franchise. We're back in Las Vegas for Ocean's Thirteen, where the boys plot to shut down the brand-new venture of a backstabbing hotelier (Al Pacino) because the guy double-crossed the now-ailing Reuben (Elliott Gould). If you look at the plot too closely, the entire edifice collapses (hey, how about those Chunnel-digging giant drills?), but Soderbergh conjures up a visual style that swings like Bobby Darin at the Copa. Other than the movie-star dazzle, the main reason to see the film is Soderbergh's uncanny feel for how the widescreen frame can float through the neon spaces of Vegas or sort through groups of characters sitting in hotel rooms talking (he shot the film himself, under his pseudonym Peter Andrews). The film doesn't give enough time to goofballs Casey Affleck and Scott Caan (whose riffs made Ocean's Twelve worth seeing), although it provides comic stuff for a fun roster of actors, including Eddie Izzard, David Paymer, and Bob ("Super Dave") Einstein. Meanwhile, Ellen Barkin makes a fetching assistant for Pacino, and Pacino himself, his hair dyed Trumpian orange, is content to gnaw on some ham for the duration. Biggest puzzle about the two sequels is why George Clooney seems content to retreat from centerstage. Still, his Hemingwayesque conversations with Pitt are an amusing form of male shorthand, and even as the movie overstays its welcome during a long finale, Clooney's easy sense of cool makes it all seem acceptable. --Robert Horton

DISAPOINTED IN SELLER March 3, 2010 S. Oilschlager (Wisconsin) The movies are great! I ordered them so I could watch them on my laptop while I'm recovering from back surgery. Not knowing I got HD DVD's that do not play on my laptop, X-box or any DVD player. I contacted the seller via e-mail, and got no response. Now I'm stuck with these great movies I can't watch.
The series starts to stall. February 19, 2010 Leif A. Ostgard (Columbia SC) The first Oceans was next to perfect, great characters, comedy, interest, etc. The movie kept you there and watching without wondering or distraction. The second...12...left some people irriated the story was not as complex and relied more one characters to be the story as opposed to the "mission". I found the second...12 to be the better of the series for it was more enjoyable to in a sense witness the scene that was the relationships of the characters. The 3rd or 13 tries to return to the 11 type...but it is almost too big. Its still a good movie but it has so many stars and so much going on that the characters are lost...some don't even have lines...also the mission seems secondary...but to what? More famous actors that you'll say...hey there is X or there is X. It looses its wittiness and loses its appeal. Some scene in the 12 movie are longer but are validated by the sense of the meaning to the film in the first the snazzy cuts make the movie great paced. Here its almost a mashup of items. A ad for designer clothes and milfism. Its still good...but you'd be better to watch 11..then 12...and if you need the doggy bag grab 13.
Ocean's Thirteen (Full-Screen Edition) January 21, 2010 Arnita D. Brown (USA) The last time we saw Danny Ocean's crew, they were paying back ruthless casino mogul Terry Benedict after stealing millions from him. However, it's been a while since they've come back together, which is all about to change. When one of their own, Reuben Tishkoff builds a hotel with known casino owner Willy Banks, the last thing he ever wanted was to get cut out of the deal personally by the loathsome Banks. Banks' attitude even goes so far as to finding the amusement in Tishkoff's misfortune when the double crossing lands Reuben in the hospital because of a heart attack. However, Danny and his crew won't stand for Banks and what he's done to a friend. Uniting with their old enemy Benedict, who himself has a vendetta against Banks, the crew is out to pull off a major plan. One that will unfold on the night Banks' newest hot spot opens up, when the crew is out to bankrupt one of the city's most despised businessmen. But they're not in this for the money, but for the revenge. I highly recommend it, its cool, funny slick and most importantly of all, very cool.
The Ocean movies automatically merit 5 stars December 30, 2009 Jay Weezy (Michigan) And when they are Blue Ray? Even Better. Not an action movie but Blue Ray is still the way to go.
