Strongly Recommended April 26, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'd take these performances with me to test audio equipment any day, and the fact that they are equally fine interpretively is just the icing on the cake. Indeed, so fine do they sound that this new multichannel format merely serves to offer a listening experience of a slightly "different" rather than "better" order. All discussions of aesthetics aside, you simply won't find better sounding recorder playing anywhere, and if you're a fan of Vivaldi and have HD DVD player this release will be essential listening. In sum, this is an outstanding recording, strongly recommended, especially to those who want to experience the power of the new generation of multichannel audio.
Never heard anything like this before! April 25, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Very glad that I finally found classical music concert to play on my new 7.1 sound system. Great thanks to the record company for releasing this music in the new format. IT IS SOUND AMAZING.
Don't mind the visuals this is an Audio not a Video experience. However it match better then conventional DVD-Audio, High Definition slide show is very pleasant.
Warning:This HDDVD contains NO live orchestra - JUST pictures April 23, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is preposterous and completely unacceptable! This HDDVD is a mere slideshow with the classic masterpiece accompanying. If I wanted this, I would buy a dvd-A. I was also annoyed by the fact that they are mentioning that the visual os 1080p. High definition my a_s. Amazon should stop selling this crooky product.Thanks/John.
MAGNIFICENT MUSIC RELEASE! March 17, 2008 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
It is however, in my judgment, the most advanced multi-channel music disc ever made. I make that observation on the basis of its unassailable audio quality, 7.1 surround sound presentation and its existing status in music culture. There are a few works (though just a few) that can make similar claims as to the latter. I'll maintain that it contains some of the best surround music I've ever heard, and that the fidelity of the disc is now available in a way never heard. It is likely at least as good as anything that has yet been done in multi-channel sound.
What You See is not What You Get March 17, 2008 6 out of 13 found this review helpful
With a proliferation of Vivaldi Four Seasons recordings in CD, SACD and DVD-Audio formats, this HD-DVD should have been the standout item in ones collection that is already brimming with multiple versions of the same. With the cover offering a tantilising glimpse of the orchestra, I bought this on the premise that it would be a video of the concert performance. I am most unhappy that this is not the case. The scenery slideshow is pretty enough but like most people who will buy this disc based on what is on the cover, they will be disappointed.
