5 out of 5 stars x-files bluray 2 pack   January 6, 2009
Both are good movies. The first being more of blockbuster. Second, more familiar tv territory and character development. Lots of extras, great picture and sound! Lets hope the second movie did well enough so Fox will greenlight a more robust sequel!

4 out of 5 stars Excellent twofer of the first X-Files movie with new extras, sharp transfer and the newer "X-Files" movie with excellent picture   December 12, 2008

A really nice boxed set of the two "X-Files" movie, "The X Files: Fight the Future" looks terrific in its first Blu-ray transfer. "Fight the Future" looks nearly as good as the more recent "I Want to Believe".br /br /"Fight the Future" info: br /Fox has upgraded this for Blu-ray with new extras including a new featurette and a new PIP commentary by Chris Carter, Frank Spotnitz, Daniel Sackheim and Director Rob Bowman. We also get the gag reel and everything that I can recall from the original DVD. The extras are high def as well. We get both the theatrical cut and unrated DVD version BOTH remastered for high def. There is no Digital Copy for the film included.br /br /The plot (SPOILERS): Set between the fifth and sixth season of the TV series, the X files has been closed down. Mulder and Scully have been reassigned. They work a terrorist threat in Texas. When Mulder follows a hunch he discovers the bomb and it's in a DIFFERENT building than they've been canvasing. More importantly, a doctor (Martin Landau)informs Mulder that there were a little boy and a fireman that rescued the boy that was infected with a pathogen in the bombed building. They were already DEAD when the bomb went off and clearly the bombing was designed to cover this up.br /br /"Fight the Future" is a strong movie and a key "episode" of the mythology arc but can stand on its own as well. Rob Bowman opens up the show making it appropriate for the big screen with a often visually dazzling movie with top notch visual effects. br /br /"I Want To Believe"br /Includes featurettes on the film, a PIP commentary track with Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz as well as a full blown documentary on the making of the film.br /br /The Plot: (SPOILERS) Mulder comes out of hiding and Scully out of "retirement" to help find a kidnapped FBI agent. Because of their experience with the X-files, they are called int to verify if a disgraced pedophile priest (Billy Connolly in an excellent performance)is, indeed, psychic as he claims to know that the FBI agent is alive and he's having visions related to the case.br /br /I had mixed feelings about the film--it's a good one which reminds me of some of the non-mythology episodes that would be squeezed in between those key episodes. It plays like a smaller, more intimate movie so don't come expecting "Fight the Future" and you won't be disappointed. The story is a bit muddled at times and is a bit slow paced but has its rewards. br /br /The film, regardless of how you feel about it, looks excellent with a crisp image that isn't digitally overprocessed. The extras are excellent with a PIP commentary from Carter and Spotnitz, a full length documentary on the making of the film. We also get a gag reel. It doesn't say it on the box but you DO get a Digital Copy of the film here as well for "I Want to Believe".br /br / br /Fox did an excellent job pulling the original extras and adding some nice new ones as part of the new package. Highly recommended although it MIGHT be more cost effective to buy this as the two Blu-ray set.

5 out of 5 stars I WANT TO BELIEVE   December 7, 2008
0 out of 2 found this review helpful

I really liked the new movie. It reminded me of an episode from the early years of the TV show. And that's not a bad thing. Picture and sound quality are good. Fight the Future has one of the worst blu-ray transfers I've seen. One star for it although I have always liked the film.

4 out of 5 stars Both X-Files looking very nice on Blu-Ray. Not a bad price on this two pack.   December 7, 2008
Being that I am a fan of the X-Files TV series, I was hoping for good transfers on these two titles. I am happy to say that the picture quality on both titles is super nice. The Audio quality is even better though.br /br /The first title, Fight The Future looks great. The title is super clean, without any artifacts or blemishes. The transfer was cleaned up nicely for this Blu-Ray debut. This movie is dark for the most part. So....the blacks are very nice and deep. I cant say that they are perfect, but they are well above average for your run of the mill catalog title. The whites are nice and clean without blooming. The colors are vivid, the picture is pretty sharp. Sometimes the picture is a tiny bit soft, but not too bad overall. The closeups show very good detail, as well as the background shots which give good depth. The skintones are right on the money also. Overall the picture on this title should get a 4 out of 5 stars overall. This is a very big improvement over the standard dvd. The audio is great. This movie has it's share of action scenes which get your surround sound booming. All speakers get into the game. The rear speakers have great effects, the subwoofer really booms in certain scenes also. The voices are crisp and clean without any distractions. A 4 1/2 star effort on sound.br /br /The second title, I Want To Believe looks even better. The blacks are very deep and dark. As good as anyone can expect. The whites are super clean and the picture detail is awesome. The outdoor landscapes really loook nice and sharp. Once again, this film is a dark movie. But it looks great. The detail is reference quality. You cant ask for much more. The skintones are right on the money without that waxey look. There are no issues with a soft picture on this title. Looks fresh and crisp from start to finish. The mostly white, snowy landscapes look very good. This would earn 4 1/2 stars easily on picture. The audio does a great job once again. This movie has it's share of action/adventure also. But...it does not have the same pace as Fight The Future. The sound is awesome, but it does not have the same booming effects as the first title. Overall this 2 pack should get a 4 out of 5 star review on picture and sound quality. br /br /If you are a fan of this TV series, you will be very pleased. If you did not watch this series on TV, you will be able to keep up with both movies. br /br /Lots of extras, Fight The Future: 2 cuts of the movie, extended and theatrical cut. Audio commentary, bonusview picture in picture, alternate scenes, several " making of the X-Files " documentary pieces, visual effects featurette, scoring featurette, gag reel, still galleries. br /br /I want to believe has both cuts of the film, audio commentary, documentary, bonusview picture in picture, interviews, visual effects featurette, interactive timeline, deleted scenes, gag reel, still galleries, and a digital copy for your computer.
