Amazon.com This haunting film may have had a small budget, but it has a huge heart. INoelle/I wears its faith on its sleeve, yet it's a faith of forgiveness and hope, not didactic rigidity. The viewer will find its gentle message lingering long after the film is over, and those of every faith will find a human (and maybe even divine) thread to connect with. The plot is simple: A struggling New England Catholic parish is on its last legs when a diocese priest arrives to take stock and prepare the pastor and his scraggly flock for the church's closing. It's Christmastime, and the pastor, Father Simeon, played with humanity by Sean Patrick Brennan, is not running a tight Yuletide ship--and may be hitting the bottle a bit much. The visiting auditor, Father Jonathan, throws up his hands at the disorganization and cut corners of the parish. Yet with his interaction with the parishioners, Father Jonathan -- played by the terrific David Wall (who also wrote and directed), a dead ringer for the young Robert Redford--is forced to confront his own feelings and judgmentalism, revisiting a mistake he made as a young man when its ghost, like Dickens', begins to revisit him. The film is never heavy-handed, and unfolds with grace and openness. Father Jonathan slowly realizes that doing things by the book doesn't always mean he's doing things by the Book--especially where forgiveness is concerned. The ending is unexpected and memorable, as is the feeling of light the viewer has watching this gem of a film. --IA.T. Hurley/I

Must see movie for people who love the Cape December 27, 2008 For anyone who has been to the Cape, particularly in the off-season, this quaint movie will bring you back. There is a lot of scenery from mid and lower cape areas. The acting is well done and the storyline wraps up the loose ends in the end. Catch Sean Brennan and Dave Hickey playing throughout the Cape during the summer season at O'Shea's Olde Inn on Rt 28 in West Dennis (the Olde Inn in the movie).

It's hard to give a review without giving away the story. It's very special. It has some sweet silly humor along with the beautiful story. This film is a labor of love and it shows.

This movie has really meant so much to me,I saw it at the movies last year in Dec. and I have had to wait almost a whole year to see it again! I watch it over and over again. It re-affirms the assurance of God's greatest gift to all mankind. Forgiveness. Redemption. Another chance. It's funny, it's cute, and I urge you to purchase this movie! God bless you and Merry Christmas!br /br /br /br /
Disappointing December 17, 2008 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
I was extremely excited to see this movie and had been counting the days until its release. It had been recommended by a trusted Christian. I had hoped it would become a Christmas classic. Sadly, it did not meet any of my expectations. The acting was poor, the storyline even worse. Instead of being uplifting, I was left with a decided bad taste in my mouth. I would not recommend anyone waste their hard earned money on this disappointing film.
Excellent film December 15, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was definitely caught by surprise by the film "Noelle." It is one of the best films I have seen in 2008, and one of the best Christmas themed movie I've ever viewed. The story is well-written, convincingly acted, and beautifully shot. Best of all, it makes profound points about forgiveness, community, restoration, the preciousness of life, and the grace of God. br /br /Watching this film for me was like eating a delicious home-cooked meal after weeks of fast food. The contrast between this truly creative story and its portrayal of interesting and complex human characters and the predictable and derivative films of the Hollywood system was bracing. It was encouraging simply to be reminded that creative and thoughtful people of integrity can produce quality works of art. Kudos to all the folks involved with "Noelle." It was a great Christmas present to me and my wife.
