4 out of 5 stars An Opera-Pop-Rock Fest!   December 6, 2008

Very well-produced DVD. I love the gothic setting of St. Stephen's Cathedral. It's so beautiful and historic--a perfect place for a Sarah Brightman concert.br /br /For anyone who wants an entertaining musical fest, this is a wonderful choice. Dark romanticism. Beautiful songs. Dramatic themes. My favorites are her pop songs "Symphony" and "Let It Rain," which are very soothing and powerful pieces. "Pie Jesu" and "Ave Maria" are both ethereal. "Fleurs Du Mal" and "Running" are mixtures of pop and rock and opera. Of her classical duets, I did enjoy "Canto Della Terra" and "Sarai Qui"* (with Alessandro Safina) and "Pasion" (with Fernando Lima). Her rendition of "The Phamton of the Opera" with Chris Thompson isn't as impressive, however. Thompson's hoarse singing voice and shouting gives me headaches, and he struggles throughout the whole song! "Time to Say Goodbye," which introduced me to both Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli back in '97, just isn't the same when performed as a solo. I love this as a duet. Yet I do prefer Brightman's solo over Bocelli's, which is both delicate and effortless. br /br /Brightman's younger sister, Amelia (aka Violet), is also in this production providing background vocals and keyboard.br /br /The DVD extras include worthwhile interviews with Brightman about the production and songs. Also, interviews with Father Anthony Faber and historian, Elisabeth Lloyd-Davis, provide a brief, but interesting overview about the magnificent Stephansdom--including a snippet of Mozart's Vienna home, (which I'm fortunate to have visited).br /br /Lovely DVD. Nice addition to any DVD collection!br /br /*A rendition of Diane Warren's "There You'll Be," performed by Faith Hill for the movie, "Pearl Harbor."
