Not even the executives at Disney could have predicted the runaway success of this live-action movie inspired by Jay Ward's goofy 1960s cartoon character. Not only did IGeorge/I make a killing at the box office, but Disney's marketing wizards turned it into one of their best-selling videos. It's hard to begrudge the movie's success, even if this is the kind of mindless entertainment that caters to the lowest common denominator. In any case, it's obvious that kids love this movie, in which the idiotic George (Brendan Fraser) repeatedly swings into trees and attracts the attention of a lovely jungle explorer (Leslie Mann) who decides to call off her engagement to a wealthy snob (Thomas Hayden Church) in favor of the vine-swinging hunk with an elephant named Shep (that thinks it's a dog) and an ape named Ape (with a proper Brit voice provided by John Cleese). Filled with slapstick gags and some funny special effects, the movie can be a bit of a trial for adults, but it's a hilarious treat for its intended audience. I--Jeff Shannon/I

3 out of 5 stars George of The Jungle   December 19, 2008
Another Christmas gift for my grandson, as per his request. Again, he must have enjoyed it in the movie theater or wouldn't have asked for it....

5 out of 5 stars Great Kid Movie   December 6, 2008
George of the Jungle I have watched this movie many times with my three grandkids. They and I love the movie. It's funny, and has just enough innocent naughtiness for the grandsons to really like it (gorilla gas, poop, etc.) They also like George of the Jungle II.

4 out of 5 stars great comedy for all ages   September 4, 2008
Good-natured, family-oriented comedy about a clumsy ape man who lives in the jungle amongst the animals and never seems able to stop crashing into trees. During a safari, he encounters a beautiful damsel in distress (Mann) and immediately falls in love with her. Despite their differences in lifestyles, he leaves his beloved jungle and travels to the big city where he tries to win her affections and adapt to civilization. It more ways than one this inherently goofy, episodic film resembles an extended television series with zany characters and a predictable setup, but it's smart, funny, and the gags are right on target. Fraser, never more likable, is perfectly cast, aided by a sly narrator and an over-the-top Cleese who really scores as the voice of ape.

5 out of 5 stars By George this movie is fun!   April 21, 2008
This movie is good, innocent fun for all ages. It has a silly bad guy, an even sillier good guy, and a monkey that talks. Very entertaining and family friendly.
