Amazon.com Product Description The Toshiba HD-A35 HD DVD Player stands less than two-and-a-half inches tall but packs a long list of cutting edge features that will help you get the most out of your home theater system. With support for 1080p/24-frame video, Deep Color, and HDMI pass-through audio, this player makes it possible to achieve a viewing experience that's as much like being in a theater as you can get without going to one.
The Toshiba HD-A35 HD DVD Player has support for 1080p/24-frame video and HDMI pass-through audio. View larger. |
The HD-A35 upconverts standard DVDs for display on an 1080p HD screen. View larger. | A Refined, Slimmer Look The HD-A35's refined design--with rounded edges, a slim chassis, and a high-gloss black face plate--looks sleek and elegant in your home theater system without taking up too much real estate. Outstanding Performance All of Toshiba's HD DVD players support the enhanced features of the HD DVD format, including picture-in-picture video, audio commentary, and Web-enabled network capabilities. With an Ethernet port, the A35 can connect to the Internet for firmware updates to keep the player up to date on new features, and to support the growing number of HD DVD titles with interactive online features and bonus content. The HD-A35 uses the latest HDMI 1.3 interface to connect to your HD television, providing large bandwidth to eliminate any data bottlenecks and to support new technologies for the utmost in viewing experience. The HD-A35 can output video at 1080p, the highest resolution available, and includes support for 24-frame video, which maintains the native 24-frames-per-second rate of films, thereby delivering an experience more similar to one in theaters. It also supports Deep Color, a new standard that breaks through the 8-bit color depth limitation of existing HD video and allows a wider range of color than ever before. Of course, the HD-A35 upconverts from other resolutions so all your standard-definition DVDs display in near-HD quality on your HD television. In addition to 1080p, the HD-A35 also outputs at 720p and 1080i if desired. High-Definition Audio Audiophiles rejoice! The A35 has HDMI pass-through audio: The audio signal can bypass the HD DVD player's internal audio processor and feed directly into an A/V receiver. The HD-A35 can output 5.1 channel analog audio and, with HDMITM, High Bit Rate Audio (up to 7.1 channels). With a capable receiver, the lossless Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio standards are then decoded externally and audiophiles will be rewarded with the highest fidelity surround sound possible, adding a new dimension of enjoyment to the home theater experience. The HD-A35 also supports other surround sound audio standards including Dolby Digital Plus, DTS 5.1, and DTS HD (core only). One-Touch Convenience You can use the CE-Link (HDMI-CEC) to connect the HD-A35 with other CEC-capable devices for unsurpassed simplicity and convenience. For example, if the HD-A35 is connected to a compatible HDTV, you can turn on both the HD DVD player and the TV and start playing a movie with a single touch of a button on the remote. The HD-A35 is backed by a limited 1-year warranty.

Good DVD Player - Until Audio Failed December 13, 2009 Michael K. Terry Owned this HD-A35 for just over two years - suddenly the audio section stopped working.
I strongly feel that two years is way too short a life for a player that initially costs this much.
To its credit - it was an excellent upconverter for standard DVDs during its short life.
A dead format February 9, 2009 C. Her (Maplewood, MN USA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this back when HD-DVD and Blu-ray were still going head to head. I had a feeling Blu-ray would win out, but the price on HD-DVD was half that of Blu-ray at the time.
For the time I had this HD-DVD player, it served it's purpose. It played high def well. Once Blu-ray became the clear cut winner, I traded in this player to Best Buy and got a little over $100 of trade in dollars and bought a new Sony Blu-ray player. I'm pleased with my new Blu-ray player.
Excellent HD-DVD player and DVD upconverter January 28, 2009 E. Kurt Cullamar (middle earth) Of course, everyone knows the format wars are over. I bought two of these Toshiba HD-DVD players knowing that, thus purchased them for a bargain. Since the universality of Blu-Ray discs is not yet 100%,and there are still tons of standard DVDs out there, I find myself occasionally only able to rent from my local movie store titles that are not on Blu-Ray.
The DVDs that I end playing on my system though look pretty good, as they are upconverted to 1080p. On a medium-sized screen (42" LCD), the picture quality is not that far off from Blu-Ray quality. Therefore, for its particular use, the HD-DVD player gets five stars for its utility.
this player rocks!!! January 22, 2009 Mark Coleman (Los Angeles,CA) I lucked out on this player. I bought a open-box player A-30 model from Best Buy for $70 no remote,no ac adapter power cord.I had to travel to four Best Buys to get these items only to end up back at the first store because I didn't purchased the item at their locations that why they weren't able to help me. So I was told to go back to the store I bought the item from where the sales floor jerk wouldn't looks for in the first place. I return to the store talked with a different person who had no problem find the missing ac power cord. I talked to a sales manager in the department I told him I was looking for A-35 model. It turned out they a display with the remote and the power cord. He said to me if I want it I'll sale it to you at the time Toshiba call it quits!!! They dropped the price to $150 dollars. I came back a week later they dropped the prices of the HDDVD players 50% off. They still had the player the sales manager remembered me and marked the price down to $70 dollars. I returned my A-30 model to A-35 Model. I was very happy with my choice to wait. The player sounds great and the movie's look great and sound and picture wise give your old or new DVD's a good boost of life!!! The HD DVD movie prices are incredible right now. I think this still Hi-Def product on the market period!!!
The best HD DVD player out there November 1, 2008 klipschfan 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Got this Toshiba HD-A35 player for my 21st birthday on march 20 2008 (upgrading form Xbox 360 add on). Great picture and bitstream audio capability + hd sound decoding (dtshdma core only) abilty makes this player a perfect fit for any hometheater. start up is a little slow next to my panasonic blu-ray player. however I am still very happy with this player and the qulity it delivers. DVD upscaling is far beter them my dmp bd30 player, but still upscaling is still no match for hd movies with good transfers. And to top it all off I got this HDMI 1.3 audio bitstream 1080p/24 capable player for $239.77 new and free shiping.
