Perhaps I have to be stoned May 29, 2008 1 out of 8 found this review helpful
I am sure to get eaten alive by fellow reviewers rating this movie straight 5's.br /br /I just didn't care for it too much, I realized drugs were involved and all that good stuff... but I felt like it had no real storyline besides two druggies on a road trip and having psychedelic hallucinations (dinosaurs, etc) and rage trips.br /br /I deeply respect Toro and Depp on their great acting regardless, and am a great fan for other movies they have been in, this one as another reviewer said... is just not for me. I put it on the same boat as 'A Scanner Darkly' - which people who love this movie will perhaps love that one as well.br /br /A Scanner Darkly [HD DVD]
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas April 1, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I think there is some pretty phenominal acting going on here. Johnny Depp is pretty amazing with what is going on in his mind verse how he is actually been seen.
Must see! January 28, 2008 One of Depp's best movies. He is really showing some insane acting skills in this one. A crazy journey from start to finish! If you were on lsd while watching a movie, this is how it would be :P
Great movie January 2, 2008 This is a really good movie, Johnny Depp at his best. This is definitely not for everyone, if you find drugs or drug culture offensive, this is not for you.
Now this is how older films on HD-DVD should look... June 26, 2007 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
...older, meaning more than 4-5 years old (or earlier generation dvd's). I read the great reviews of the transfer and have seen my share of disappointing high-def discs already. So I was skeptical when I bought it. This is one of the best (funniest) movies ever. br /br / Well, I first watched the opening scene and some parts of my Criterion version (which had been a better standard transfer) on my 56 HD-RPTV. It used to look great on my 32" tube TV. It looked terrible on the bigger screen of course, making me scared of another cruddy HD transfer like my Sleepy Hollow or the Game (worst ever so far).br /br /br /br /After the first few seconds of the opening scene, let alone the rest of the movie, I loved this transfer (HD-DVD). Now this is how "somewhat older" films should look like on HD-DVD! Absolutely amazing colors, contrast and sharpness. The vegas lights look fantastic as do the rest of the colors in this "trip". No annoying digital noise, a few specs of dust on the film which I never mind, and the dust/smoke is rendered beautifully. The DD+ soundtrack is great and it has a DD True soundtrack even though most of us at this point can't take full advantage of it. What a fantastic job this is- I'm loving it.
