4 out of 5 stars Toshiba HD-A3   September 7, 2008

This HD-DVD player works exactly as it should. No problems accessing the internet to update the firmware. No problems to date playing any discs. It's a great entry level machine, or a good inexpensive back up machine.

4 out of 5 stars Dark picture   August 22, 2008
Overall the player is a great deal for $59 but it has one irritating flaw. Pros- Clear picture, plays compressed dvds, boot up time is reasonable. This was exaggerated by previous reviews.br /Con- The picture is dark whereby a blue suit looks black. I have to adjust tv brightness controls on lcd tv with each hd-dvd. This is a pain since I have to switch it back for tv viewing.

5 out of 5 stars Toshiba HD-A3 and Sony BDP-S350: peaceful coexistence at last!   August 6, 2008

I just purchased the brand new Sony BDP-S350 Blu-Ray player and put it on my rack right next to my Toshiba HD-A3 HD-DVD player, which I bought in November of last year.br /br /Both machines do a fantastic job on high def movies and upconversions!br /br /Since the electronics industry couldn't agree on one standard, I had to take matters into my own hands and agree on 2 standards. Since the HD-DVD library is so extensive already, even without any new product in the pipeline, there is plenty to choose from. And at great prices from Amazon!br /br /Eventually, Blu-Ray discs will come down in price, too. It's inevitable.br /br /Watching movies on a high def disc is well worth it, even with 2 incompatible players! Its the sharpest and purest medium of all. The ultimate in HD.br /br /Peaceful coexistence at last!br /br /br /br /

5 out of 5 stars HD-DVD is a great bargain   August 2, 2008

The Toshiba HD-DVD player was a good choice for me as I have a huge collection of DVDs and I wanted to add several HD-DVDs to my collection. The Toshiba plays all of my discs with no issues and they look great on my HD LCD TV. I won't invest in Blu-Ray until the prices come down. Since the price for the Toshiba HD-DVD was so reasonable and now that I have seen the excellent look for myself, I am very pleased with my purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Good solution until Blu-Ray technology gets cheaper   July 25, 2008
Great price for a high-definition DVD player that upsamples well. I have no interest at this time in paying five times as much for Blu-Ray!
